The best known shopping areas in Amsterdam are The Kalverstraat, The Nieuwendijk and The Leidsestraat. While these places have a lot to offer, we would also like to recommend some spots that are a bit more authentic and unique (and not as touristy).

There are several Hema shops spread out all over the Netherlands. They are ideal for everyday items such as bedding and towels, lamps, kitchen articles, make-up, greeting cards, plugs, light bulbs and other home improvement parts. Hema only sells their own brand. The clothing collection is very basic, but comes in handy if you're looking for socks, gloves and scarves. Hema stores also develop photographs. Most Hema shops sell coffee, cookies and other delicious treats!
