was banned in Amsterdam. However, some Catholics continued to worship in hidden
churches, of which "Our Lord in The Attic" is the only surviving
example. This house also gives a good impression of how rich merchants lived
during Holland's Golden Age. This double-sized canal house dates from 1672, the
first resident was Ferdinand Bol, one of rembrandts most famous pupils. In the
19th century, the Van Loon family came to live there, the family’s
history is closely interwined with that of Amsterdam. Throughout time, the
interior and exterior have remained practically intact. They also organize
modern and historic exhibitions. Foam Amsterdam exhibits all genres of photography: fine art,
documentary, applied, historical and contemporary; a museum with international
allure. Along with large exhibitions of established (world) famous
photographers, Foam also exhibits emerging young talent in smaller short-term
shows. Tropenmuseum is a fascinating anthropological museum,
housed in a beautiful and historic building. You get to know widely different
cultures and get a excellent impression
of everyday life in the tropics. In this building you can also find the
Tropenmuseum Junior for kids between 6 and 12 years old. Tuschinski opened her doors for the first time in 1921
and was the most luxurious movie theatre in the Netherlands. It has been
completely renovated and it still gives people the feeling that they are
entering a treasure room. This is thé place to go, if you want to see a movie!
They have special love-seat arrangements as well during the weekends. Artis is not only a Zoo, but also has an
Aquarium, Botanical gardens, a Zoological Museum, a Geological
Museum and a Planetarium, right in the middle of the city! It is the oldest zoo
in the Netherlands, it opened her doors in 1838. Artis is a fascinating zoo and
owns over 700 species of animals! NEMO is the biggest science centre in
the Netherlands; an educational
attraction where you can discover a world of science and
technology in an entertaining way. At NEMO they actually invite you to touch
everything and conduct your own experiments. Especially children between 4 and
16 years old will enjoy this visit!
